avatar - a animatable (movable) icon representing a person in cyberspace or virtual reality
backup - the activity of copying files so that they will be saved in case of equipment failure or other catastrophe.
badware - malware: bad or malicious software created to do harm to computer systems. Also known as viruses.
bit - binary digit: the most basic unit in computer. It is a single digit of either a zero (0) or one (1) representing either true(1) or false (0) or on (1) and off (0). Represented as a lowercase "b."
blog - web log: a web application that allows users to create and keep a journal online which can be read by anyone anywhere using the internet. Posts are communications on these web pages.
boolean - In most computer programming languages, a Boolean (named after George Boole) is a data type with only two possible values: true or false.
boolean search - Boolean logic allows you to combine words and phrases into search statements to retrieve documents from searchable databases. A boolean search on the internet allows you to search using any of the three logical operators: and, or & not. For example, search for "California Mission and San Fernando" instead of just searching for "California Missions".
buddy list- a list of people considered your "friends" with whom you can "chat" through an instant messaging (IM) program.
bug - an error in a computer program or electronic device that causes unwanted behavior; a failure or defect
burn - save or record information (data, photos, videos) onto a CD (compact disk) or DVD (digital versatile disk - for videos)
byte - a unit of computing which represents 8 bits (see definition for "bit") Represented as an uppercase "B."
CPU - Central Processing Unit: a small computer chip (a tiny wafer of metal used to make an integrated circuit) that is the part of a computer in which operations are controlled and executed; the computer's "brain."

VR - virtual reality - an environment that is simulated by a computer that the user can manipulate (interactively use) through a keyboard, mouse, joystick, cyberglove or other devices (such as with a Wii). The simulated environment can be created to be much like the real world or a fantasy world.
